The John Locke Writing Competition is an academic project organized by the John Locke Institute, an independent educational organization based in Oxford, in cooperation with professors from the University of Oxford (UK) and Princeton University (US), and is judged entirely by the University of Oxford (UK). Because of its wide range of subjects and interesting topics, it has become one of the most popular and recognized English essay competitions for high school students in the world!

Contents of the competition

　　根据官网提供的问题，写一篇论文。论文主题有：哲学、政治、经济、历史、心理学、神学和法律。此外针对14岁以下的学生还设有青少年组，青少年组提供7个题目，其他七大方向各提供4个题目。学生需要在选题公布后选择某个方向的某个题目进行论文撰写。

Write an essay based on the questions provided on the official website. The essay topics are: philosophy, politics, economics, history, psychology, theology and law. There is also a Junior category for students under 14 years of age, which offers seven topics and four topics in each of the other seven main directions. Students will be asked to choose a topic from one of the seven areas of study and write their thesis after the selection has been announced.

　　所有参赛作品必须在提交截止日期（2024年6月30日）英国夏令时晚上11点59分之前提交。候选人必须在那天年满18岁或更小。（青年奖的候选人必须在那一天年满十四岁或更小。）

All entries must be submitted by the submission deadline (June 30, 2024) at 11:59pm UK Daylight Time. Candidates must be 18 years of age or younger on that date. (Candidates for the Youth Award must be fourteen or younger on that date.)

　　每篇文章必须只涉及你所选择的主题类别中的一个问题，并且不得超过2000字（注意哦！不包括图表、数据表、脚注、参考书目或作者声明）。

Each essay must deal with only one issue in your chosen subject category and must not exceed 2,000 words (note oh! Do not include graphs, data tables, footnotes, bibliographies, or author statements).

　　最佳论文的作者将获得表彰并入围奖项。入围论文的作者将在7月31日星期三英国夏令时晚上11点59分之前收到通知。他们还将受邀前往伦敦参加9月的学术会议和颁奖晚宴，届时将宣布获奖者。

The author of the best paper will be recognized and shortlisted for the award. Authors of shortlisted papers will be notified by Wednesday, July 31st at 11:59pm British Daylight Time. They will also be invited to London for the academic conference and awards dinner in September, where the winners will be announced.

All shortlisted candidates, including the winners, will be able to download electronic certificates recognizing their achievements. There is also the opportunity to receive a signed certificate if you win first, second or third prize and travel to London for the awards ceremony!
